Nossaman Recognized for Infrastructure, Environment, Renewable Energy and Land Use Work

Nossaman was recognized by The Legal 500 in four practice categories for 2020. The Firm was recognized in the Project Finance: Advice to Sponsors category; the Environment: Litigation category; the Energy: Renewable/Alternative Power category; and the Land Use/Zoning category.

In the Environment: Litigation category, Nossaman was noted for the “strength of its wildlife practice” and “proven track record of handling the defense against challenges based on impacts to endangered species and related resources, as well as resolving government clean-up claims and enforcement actions.” Paul Weiland was praised by clients, who said that his “knowledge of the law and of associated disciplines (e.g., ecology and environmental science) is outstanding.”

For the Energy: Renewable/Alternative Power category, the Firm was highlighted for its unique practice. Commentators said the practice’s “sweet-spot lies in assisting energy clients navigate the environmental and wildlife permitting issues associated with solar, wind hydro and battery storage projects throughout the country.”

Legal 500 noted that in the Land Use/Zoning field, Nossaman “brings together expertise in land use, environmental and eminent domain issues, [and] represents private developers and public infrastructure clients in land use entitlement matters, permit approvals, and all related litigation.” John Erskine was praised by clients as “an exceptionally seasoned and experienced attorney with a strong background in land use and real estate law who also served as an elected official, which adds credibility when dealing with the CCC and other government bodies.”

The Infrastructure Group—which was ranked in the Project Finance: Advice to Sponsors category—was lauded for “regularly representing government and state agencies across the US and abroad [and having] a huge market-share when it comes to advising on major transportation PPPs.” The attorneys in the group were described as “highly experienced on the social infrastructure and utilities side, as well as on public building projects.”
