Chambers & Partners has recognized 19 of our attorneys, along with our Eminent Domain & Valuation, Environment & Land Use, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Insurance, Pensions, Benefits & Investments and Real Estate Groups in its 2024 Chambers USA guide of leading law firms and lawyers.

Once again, the 2024 edition distinguishes our Infrastructure Group as one of only five practices in the national top tier for the Projects: Public Private Partnership (PPP) category. The practice is also ranked in the top tier globally by Chambers. The group was lauded by clients, with one saying, “The Nossaman team has always performed at the highest level and are fully committed to their clients. They take the success of the projects very personally which reflects their commitment.” Chambers added the practice is “one of the go-to firms for representation of public sector clients including state authorities, government departments and universities in the PPP space.”

Infrastructure team members Barney AllisonAndrée BlaisCorey Boock, Brent Butzin, Elizabeth Cousins, Yukiko Kojima and Geoff Yarema were selected as leading lawyers in the category. Liz, chair of our Infrastructure Group, is praised for having a “strong practice advising public authorities on PPP and other project contracts and a particular expertise in water infrastructure.” Barney is recognized for “acting for public agency clients on the development and financing of a wide range of infrastructure projects.” Andrée’s clients commend her by saying she “provides stellar legal counsel and guidance.” Corey is highlighted by clients for his “top level service” and being “keenly aware of the market and seeking to find commercially viable solutions to problems as they are encountered.” Brent is noted for his “strong representation of public sector clients in the financing of PPP projects including rail, road and social infrastructure.” Yukiko is complimented for her strong performance “in the PPP space and for being frequently sought after to assist with the financing and development on infrastructure projects.” Geoff is called a key advisor for “clients on PPP projects and broader strategy in the transportation sector.”

Chambers also recognizes Nossaman as a top law firm in environmental and land use law nationally and in California, Texas and Washington.

Discussing the Firm’s national Environment & Land Use Group, Chambers stated it is “a well-known team with a national presence in environmental law and land use matters such as groundwater contamination, natural resources damages and toxic tort litigation.”

Writing about our Environment & Land Use Group in California, Chambers said we have “a robust environment group able to handle an array of environmental and natural resource matters. Notable strength lies in CWA and Endangered Species Act issues…and in handling a wide spread of litigation and regulatory compliance matters, as well as land use and environmental permitting.”

In Texas, clients said “From the senior partners on down to the associates, Nossaman has a very deep bench strength when it comes to wildlife and environmental regulatory and legal issues.”

The team was repeatedly praised by clients. Mary Lynn was called “someone you want to work with, as she is both an outstanding lawyer and a nice person,” while Rob was acknowledged for being “well respected by his colleagues and clients.” Svend was lauded for being “incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful” and Leslie’s clients called her a “great lawyer” and said “her depth of experience and knowledge serves [us] very well.” Brooke was distinguished as an “an exceptional attorney” that is “very client-focused and proactive.” Rebecca garnered positive commentary for having notable “expertise and always being available to answer questions” as well as “understanding her clients’ needs.”

Recognized as a leading firm both nationally and in the Washington, DC region in the insurance industry, Nossaman was highlighted for “representing policyholders in disputes against insurance companies in connection with a wide variety of insurance policies, including directors and officers (D&O), commercial liability, property, errors and omissions, crime and fidelity policies.”

Andrew Reidy, co-chair of the Insurance Recovery & Counseling Group, was recognized nationally in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution Policyholder category and in the DC region in the Insurance: Policyholder category came in for high praise from his clients. They said Andrew is “a skilled advocate who is very strategic and thinks four or five steps ahead” and “is always thinking about client needs and gets into the detail.” Clients similarly lauded Joseph Saka, who was ranked in the DC region in the Insurance: Policyholder category. They stated he is an “outstanding” lawyer and is “adept at developing strategy, a great communicator and manages expectations well.”

The Firm’s Eminent Domain & Valuation Group and Real Estate Group were recognized in the Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use category in California, and Eminent Domain & Valuation Group chair Brad Kuhn was recognized individually. The groups were noted by clients for having ”exceptional expertise and extensive knowledge, [and] excellent contemporary awareness.” Brad’s clients said he “has a sophisticated level of knowledge of land use and environmental matters and is very responsive.”

Ranked again as a leading firm in healthcare in California, the group was highlighted for “serving as healthcare law and policy leaders in California for decades.” Healthcare co-chair Tom Curtis is ranked individually, and is called a leading healthcare lawyer and Chambers said he “represents a range of healthcare clients such as hospitals, health systems and health plans.”

Yuliya Oryol, co-chair of the Firm’s Pensions, Benefits & Investments Group was ranked in the national Investment Funds: Investor Representation category. She was called “notably adept at advising clients on co-investments, funds-of-one and secondary transactions.” Clients added she is “extremely knowledgeable and passionate about this space.”

In the national Food & Beverages: Alcohol category, Marco Costales was honored for having “recognized experience on advising alcohol importers and wineries on license applications and compliance issues,” with clients expressing he is “very knowledgeable and easy to work with.”
