Successfully Defending Regional Transportation Projects in Bakersfield
For the past four years, Nossaman has defended the City of Bakersfield in CEQA challenges to the several hundred million dollars of improvements to the regional transportation system.
Petitioners sought to set aside the approval of the projects - including improvements to State-Route 99, a new freeway connecting SR-99 to Interstate 5, and other regional transportation improvements - by the City and Caltrans. Petitioners alleged more than two dozen inadequacies in the environmental documentation, ranging from historical resources, public health and air quality impacts to the range of alternative alignments selected for environmental review. Ultimately, the cases were dismissed and the projects are under construction.
