Shant Boyajian Quoted on Transportation Legislation and Regulation to Watch in 2020
Shant Boyajian, attorney and lead author of the 2015 Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, was quoted in the Law360 article, “Transportation Legislation and Regulation To Watch in 2020" (subscription required). The article provides an overview of the items the industry will be on the lookout for this year, including legislation renewing highway and infrastructure funding.
Commenting on what could happen regarding the FAST Act—which is set to expire in September of 2020—Shant stated that the “Senate committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee are laying the groundwork for surface transportation reauthorization.”
He added that “In the panoply of legislative priorities, infrastructure is one area that offers a glimmer of hope — it is historically a bipartisan issue and could be an election-year winner for Democrats and Republicans alike.” However, he cautioned that the challenges of reaching an agreement should not be understated. “Congress continues to become more polarized, and the White House has had increasing challenges advancing its legislative priorities through Congress. All parties involved will need to come together with a willingness to make real concessions if infrastructure legislation is to be enacted before the election.”
