NAPPA's 2023 Legal Education Conference
Ashley Dunning, Courtney Krause and Michelle McCarthy spoke during the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys’ 2023 Legal Education Conference, which took place June 27-30, 2023 in San Antonio, TX.
Michelle and her co-presenter, Melanie Walker, Senior Vice President for Segal, presented “Smarter, Greener, Better? Defined Contribution and Hybrid Plans Catch-Up on Secure 2.0 and ESG Investing” on June 28th. They focused the presentation on certain legal changes effective in 2023 and 2024 under SECURE 2.0 requiring action or consideration for qualified plans, as well as the interplay between state law and fiduciary considerations impacting ESG investing for governmental plans.
Courtney led a discussion about the “Alphabet Soup of Investment Operations and Subscription Documentation” on June 29th. The panel addressed operational aspects of investment management, including FATCA, OFAC and know-your-customer and anti-money laundering compliance. The panel also reviewed current trends in subscription agreements, investors questionnaires and operational compliance requirements.
Ashley and her co-presenter, Daniel Aronowitz, Managing Principal for Euclid Fiduciary, discussed “National Litigation Trends Against Public Retirement Systems” on June 30th.
The National Association of Public Pension Attorneys (NAPPA) is a professional legal and educational organization. Created in 1987, its membership consists exclusively of attorneys who represent public pension funds. Its purpose is to provide educational opportunities and informational resources for its member attorneys.
