Overview
Derek Kliewer assists clients on a full range of environmental and land use law matters. His practice spans litigation and transactional matters involving the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), the California Coastal Act and various California environmental and land use laws.
During law school, Derek served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Dale A. Drozd of the United States District Court, Eastern District of California.

Experience
Energy and Wildlife Action Coalition. Derek serves on Nossaman’s legal team advising a growing coalition of utility and renewable energy companies. The coalition focuses on federal wildlife laws and policies affecting construction and operation of electric power infrastructure across the United States. This role includes preparing comment letters on behalf of EWAC and regularly reporting on updates to federal wildlife laws and regulations.
Renewable Energy. Derek is frequently involved in assisting renewable energy clients in preparing permitting opinions and transactional support in connection with federal, state and local natural resources and environmental issues.
