Nossaman Named A Best Law Firm For Minority Attorneys By Law360 For The Third Time

Nossaman is pleased to have been named to Law360’s annual list of the Best Law Firms For Minority Attorneys for 2018.  Nossaman was ranked as the #4 law firm in the 150-299 Lawyers category.  Law360 noted that firms included on the list are starting to make some headway in an industry that struggles with diversity.  Nossaman has been recognized before by Law360 in this area—having been named as a Best Law Firm For Minority Attorneys in 2015 and 2016. 

This is an outstanding recognition for Nossaman.  It demonstrates that the efforts we’ve made towards developing and maintaining an inclusive, open workplace are gaining traction and allowing lawyers from diverse backgrounds to flourish at the Firm, said Patricia de la Peña, a Partner in Nossaman’s Infrastructure Practice Group and the leader of its Diversity and Inclusion Committee.  Committing ourselves to creating this type of dynamic work environment allows us to offer best-in-class service to our clients and attract and retain lawyers at the top of their field. 

As part of its initiative to build a welcoming workplace for diverse individuals, Nossaman annually hosts a Diversity Day for its attorneys, policy advisors, and senior management with a focus on developing key skills and performance that leads to advancement, both inside and outside the Firm.  Additionally, Nossaman sponsors or hosts educational programming for a number of groups dedicated to diversity issues in the workplace. 

To compile these rankings, Law360 surveyed more than 300 U.S. firms, or vereins with a U.S. component, about their overall and minority headcount numbers as of Dec. 31, 2017.  Only U.S.-based attorneys were included in the survey, and firms had to have at least 20 U.S.-based attorneys to participate. 

For the ranking, firms were first grouped according to size: 20-149 attorneys, 150-299 attorneys, 300-599 attorneys, and 600-plus attorneys.  Then, firms that fell below the average in their group in any of the following categories were deemed ineligible for the ranking: (1) percentage of minority attorneys; (2) percentage of minority nonpartners; (3) percentage of minority partners, both equity and nonequity; and (4) percentage of minority equity partners.  Finally, remaining firms were ranked using a formula that equally weights the percentage of nonpartners and percentage of total partners who are minorities.
