Nossaman Congratulates Florida Department of Transportation on I-4 Express Opening
We would like to congratulate the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on officially opening the I-4 Express, which opened to drivers on February 26, 2022. The I-4 Express includes two managed toll lanes in each direction in the center of I-4, spanning 21 miles from west of Kirkman Road (State Road 435) to east of State Road 434, in the heavily travelled Orlando region.
News of the opening was covered by multiple media outlets. Fox News Orlando reported that FDOT predicted the I-4 lanes “should cut traffic by 20-percent.” The Orlando Sentinel noted the lanes are a vital feature of the $2.4 billion revamp of I-4 and “intended to relieve congestion through Orlando’s core.”
The I-4 Express is an integral component of FDOT’s I-4 Ultimate project, a highway development project that spans Orange and Seminole Counties. In addition to the I-4, the award-winning availability payment P3 project includes the rebuild of 15 major interchanges and the addition or replacement of 127 bridges. Patrick Harder, Chair of Nossaman’s Infrastructure Group, serves as lead outside counsel for FDOT on the project.
