Nossaman Public Pensions Co-Chair Yuliya Oryol Quoted In Daily Journal
Nossaman Public Pensions and Investments Practice Group Co-Chair Yuliya Oryol was quoted in the Daily Journal article State Assembly Bill Takes Aim At Pension Plan Disclosure Of Private Equity Fees. The article examines Assembly Bill 2833, which is currently working its way through the State Assembly. The bill—introduced by Assemblyman Ken Cooley, D-Rancho Cordova—would mandate that California public pension plan managers seek out thorough disclosures of costs and fees in private equity investments through an annual report. Ms. Oryol commented that should the bill make it through the California legislature and the Governor’s scrutiny, it would be a well designed start toward addressing a bigger issue. She added that Sometimes California has to lead because we have the two largest pension systems in the country…This legislation involved only private equity. It’s a good place to start, but the issue isn’t just in private equity. It could be expanded to all alternative investments.
