Nossaman Grows Public Pensions and Investment Practice with Addition of Renowned Pensions Attorney Peter Mixon

San Francisco, CA (November 1, 2017) – Nossaman has expanded its Public Pensions and Investment Practice Group with the addition of Peter Mixon, who joins as a Partner. Mr. Mixon joins from K&L Gates, where he served as a Partner. Before joining K&L Gates, he was General Counsel for the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) for eleven years.

Mr. Mixon has a broad practice focused on public pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, and other institutional investors. He concentrates on trust law in the context of investments, governance, operations, and regulatory investigations and advises his clients on public and private market investment contracts. He also has extensive experience advising public boards and committees on governance and fiduciary issues. Mr. Mixon has testified in state court as an expert on public pension fiduciary standards and often speaks and writes on public pension topics.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Peter on a number of pension related matters, including litigation before the California Supreme Court, over the course of my career, and know the value his skillset will bring to the Firm and its clients. Mr. Mixon served on the Board of the National Association of Public Pension Plan Attorneys from 2009-2013, and chaired the Investors Subcommittee for the New York Stock Exchange Commission on Corporate Governance from 2009-2010. He holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
