Robert Adler Featured for his Groundbreaking Work on Sexual Harassment Matters
Nossaman Partner Robert Adler was featured in Oberlin’s alumni magazine in the article Before #MeToo Was A Movement, highlighting his groundbreaking work on a number of sexual harassment matters. The article highlighted his work with Sandra Bundy, who Bob represented in a landmark lawsuit in the late 1970s.
In the lawsuit, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals established, for the first time in the US, that there was unlawful sex discrimination under Title VII when there was a hostile work environment. Prior cases held that sex discrimination could be established only when there was a quid pro quo--the promise of tangible job benefits in exchange for sexual favors.
Additionally, the article highlights Bob’s work with Mabel King, who he successfully represented in a case before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals that established that promotion decisions cannot be based on a sexual relationship; and his work with Deborah Bryant, who he persistently represented in a sexual discrimination case for nearly three decades, and ultimately secured a favorable settlement.
