HR Challenges in a COVID-19 World
On July 8, 2020, Allison Callaghan and Pavneet Mac presented "HR Challenges in a COVID-19 World" for the California Ambulatory Surgery Association's 2020 Virtual Conference. The interactive virtual series of 2020 was on the subject of ASC Recovery: Navigating the New Normal, and based off of concerns and questions from a recent CASA member survey. Each session was followed by virtual breakout groups where attendees could discuss the topic and their experiences with their colleagues.
As Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) deal with the impacts of COVID-19, they not only grapple with patient safety issues, but also face complex challenges related to developing return-to-work plans, navigating teleworking arrangements, ensuring workplace safety for employees, furloughing and laying off staff, and complying with sick leave and family and medical leave requirements. In this session, Allison and Pavneet addressed the most frequently asked human resources questions relating to COVID-19 challenges, and offered practical solutions and best practices for mitigating legal risks and staying compliant.
The California Ambulatory Surgery Association's mission is to serve as a proactive leader in the California ambulatory surgery industry, and will advance communication and education, appropriate legislative and regulatory actions, and continue the enhancement of industry excellence to embrace the challenges of the 21st century.
