Senior Accountant (Los Angeles)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing key accounting operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and providing financial insights to support decision-making. The Senior Accountant will work closely with internal teams and take direct ownership of essential accounting processes, including time entry close, general ledger close and year-end close. The ideal candidate will have the confidence and experience to manage these responsibilities with minimal supervision and should have hands-on experience with Aderant, a solid understanding of law firm accounting principles and experience in managing general ledger entries, business taxes, partner equity and more. This position will be hybrid remote (onsite 2+ days per week), is located in our Los Angeles office and will report to the Chief Financial Officer. 

The salary range for the position of Senior Accountant at Nossaman is $101,000 to $125,000 annually. The successful candidate’s salary for this position is reasonably expected to be set within this range. However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the monthly time entry close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of all time entries
  • Lead the monthly general ledger close, ensuring that financial transactions are recorded and reconciled accurately
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
  • Manage year-end close activities, ensuring timely completion in accordance with relevant accounting standards and deadlines
  • Prepare journal entries, including depreciation, accruals and adjustments, in line with firm policies and accounting principles
  • Handle the preparation and filing of business taxes, including income taxes, property taxes and other firm-specific tax obligations
  • Support the management of equity partner capital accounts, ensuring accurate tracking of capital contributions, distributions and compensation
  • Oversee the 1099 reporting process, ensuring timely and accurate filing in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Reconcile ChromeRiver transactions, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to firm policies
  • Compute and ensure compliance with excise tax regulations specific to the firm
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal stakeholders using advanced tools such as PowerPivot, SQL, or other reporting systems
  • Collaborate with external auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations during the audit process
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting principles, legal regulations and internal policies
  • Additional accounting tasks and projects as assigned

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience in a law firm or similar professional services environment
  • Hands-on experience with Aderant or similar legal billing/accounting software is required
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger management, journal entries, depreciation and tax filings in a law firm setting
  • Advanced Excel skills are required. Experience with reporting tools such as SSRS, EIS, PowerPivot, or SQL is highly desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with partners and internal teams
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise integrity when handling sensitive financial information
