Junior Paralegal (Los Angeles or Orange County)
We are seeking a Junior Paralegal to support the Firm’s litigation-focused groups. The Junior Paralegal will support the Firm by performing a variety of duties to assist its attorneys through the commencement, discovery, trial, settlement, mediation and appellate phases of the Firm’s litigation matters. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong organizational skills and can manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced legal environment. The Junior Paralegal works under the supervision of the Firm’s Practice Support Services Director, will be hybrid remote (onsite 2+ days per week) and can be located in the Los Angeles or Orange County offices.
The hourly range for the position of Junior Paralegal at Nossaman is approximately $30.76 to $43.58 per hour. The successful candidate’s annual compensation for this position is reasonably expected to be set between $60,000 and $85,000 per year, based on a 37.5-hour standard Firm workweek. However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage files and documents related to litigation cases in adherence to Firm policies and procedures
- Retrieve, analyze, file and distribute filings and correspondence to case teams that are served in complex litigations
- Coordinate with support services, vendors, litigation support, clients, opposing law firms and courts and adhere to schedules and deadlines as communicated
- Compile and prepare evidence and supporting information by researching records, discovery documents, transcripts and databases
- Assist with document reviews and productions
- Prepare for depositions, mediations, settlement conferences and trials by preparing trial notebooks and exhibits
- Perform research for various Firm departments, including Business Development and Knowledge Management
- Conduct basic legal research, including docket pulls and fulfilling article requests in conjunction with Knowledge Management team
- Monitor Knowledge Management requests as needed and respond or refer requests appropriately
- Liaise with the Practice Support Services Director, Knowledge Management team and the AI working group on evaluating, assessing and implementing new AI-based software
- Maintain and improve technical knowledge by attending continuing legal education workshops and classes. Demonstrate growth of knowledge in other Firm practice areas
- Work efficiently in a time-critical environment and respond to multiple priorities from various sources in a positive and professional manner
- Ensure timely and accurate entry of time to be billed to clients
- Complete special projects as needed
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Legal, or related course, or equivalent experience, is required
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program is preferred, or a combination of education and/or experience compliant with California Business and Professions Codes 6450-56
- Prior work experience in the legal industry is preferred but not required
- Strong software skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills for productive interaction with multiple parties associated with each matter
- Ability to work independently (with knowledge of when to ask for guidance), self-starter and detail-oriented, as well as being a team player
- Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours; flexibility to work weekends or evenings as needed
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, make practical decisions and apply ability and knowledge to situations while seeking direction when needed
