Nossaman's Work With ETM-LA, Angels Flight Highlighted In WTS Los Angeles Newsletter

12/19/2017 Women's Transportation Seminar – Los Angeles Newsletter

Nossaman’s work on the pioneering P3 that helped Angels Flight come back into service, and its support of Education Through Music Los Angeles (ETM-LA) was highlighted in the November 2017 issue of the Women’s Transportation Seminar – Los Angeles (WTS-LA)  newsletter. The article summarizes the efforts undertaken by Angels Flight Foundation (represented by Nossaman) and ACS Infrastructure to open Angels Flight to the public once again, and provides an overview of the October 27th event  in downtown Los Angeles that celebrated both the reopening of Angels Flight and the 100th birthday of the nearby Grand Central Market (connected to Bunker Hill by Angels Flight).

The event—which was sponsored by ACS Engineering—featured entertainment provided by a group of students from two ETM-LA schools. ETM-LA is a non-profit that partners with inner-city schools to provide music as part of the core curriculum for all children, with music education acting as a catalyst to improve academic achievement, motivation for school and self-confidence. Nossaman partners Nancy Smith and Yukiko Kojima sit on the board of the non-profit, and Nossaman provides pro bono services to the organization.  Nancy, who lived in the Bunker Hill Towers when she first moved to Los Angeles, was happy to see Angels Flight recommissioned.  She commented on Nossaman’s engagement on the project and thought that it was appropriate for WTS-LA and ETM-LA to participate in the event, saying  “Nossaman has been actively involved in P3 transportation projects for almost 30 years…We were the law firm that represented the non-profit Angels Flight Foundation in negotiating the P3 deal with the ACS team. And we are a corporate sponsor to WTS-LA, which is actively engaged in transportation issues as well as STEM and STEAM programs (STEAM adds art to STEM) through its Adopt-A-School and scholarship programs. Finally, we provide pro bono services to ETM-LA, which is essentially a P3. Public schools are engaging a non-profit to help bring music back into schools, just like Angels Flight brought a non-profit entity to rehab and operate it. So, the combination of Angels Flight, ETM-LA, WTS-LA, Nossaman, and P3s was just a fantastic way to bring everything together.”
