Nossaman's Eminent Domain, Environment & Land Use, Healthcare, and Infrastructure Practices Recognized by Chambers

Chambers & Partners has recognized 12 Nossaman attorneys along with the Firm's Eminent Domain, Environment & Land Use, Healthcare, and Infrastructure Practice Groups in its 2019 Chambers USA guide of leading law firms and lawyers.

The 2019 edition distinguishes Nossaman as one of only three firms in the top-tier of law firms nationally in the Projects: Public Private Partnership (PPP) category.  Chambers notes that the group is “one of the go-to firms for representation of public sector clients including state authorities, government departments and universities in the PPP space” and its “well-known ability in road and rail PPP structures is augmented by additional skill in social infrastructure projects.”

One client commented that Nossaman's Infrastructure attorneys are “fantastic; they continue to cement themselves as the preeminent public owner adviser for public owner projects in the US.  They are excellent lawyers and develop clear, comprehensive contracts; they understand how P3s must be procured, and ultimately closed."

Infrastructure Practice Group members Barney Allison, Corey Boock, Patrick Harder, and Geoffrey Yarema were selected as leading lawyers in the category.  Patrick Harder, Chair of Nossaman's Infrastructure Practice Group, is praised by clients for his “outstanding”  work and for “always delivering impressive results.”  Geoffrey Yarema is noted for being a “strategist, a business-minded lawyer and able to manage high leverage executive meetings and decisions."  Corey Boock is recognized for offering “excellent feedback during discussions about what needs and services clients may require to accomplish their goal of delivering a design-build project” and Barney Allison is lauded for having “a really strong grasp of the overall legal and contractual requirements that go into a design-build procurement."

Chambers also recognized Nossaman as a leading law firm in Environmental law in California, Texas, Washington, and Washington, D.C.

Commenting on the California team, Chambers said it is a “robust group able to handle an array of environmental and natural resource matters [and its] notable strength lies in CWA and Endangered Species Act issues.”  A client praised the Firm for the strength of its “deep bench [and] specialists in nearly every field we could ever need, so we know that we can get precise advice in even arcane subjects in law."

The Washington team was noted for assisting clients across “the full gamut of environmental matters, including contaminated site remediation and resolution of natural resource damage claims as well as compliance and litigation relating to air and water quality, wildlife conservation and fisheries management.”  The Group won notice from clients for its “knowledge and client service.”  Additionally, clients said that in their opinion Nossaman was “just all around…the best value you can get from outside counsel.”

Robert Thornton (California), Svend Brandt-Erichsen (Washington), Linda Larson (Washington), Steve Quarles (Washington, D.C.) and Brooke Wahlberg (Texas), all members of the Firm’s Environment and Land Use Practice Group, were recognized as leading attorneys in their respective states.  Mr. Thornton’s clients stated that “he is extremely knowledgeable about the ESA and is truly an expert in his field."  Clients called Mr. Brandt-Erichsen “the kind of lawyer who gives exactly the targeted, practical, useful advice we needed at a reasonable price" and recognized Ms. Larson as a “very good lawyer” with a wealth of trial experience.  Clients of Mr. Quarles noted that he is a “renowned expert in the field and can grasp the intricacies of complicated permitting landscapes quickly and completely.”

Recognized again as a leading firm in Healthcare in California, Nossaman was singled out for its strength in “medical peer review, fraud and abuse laws, EMTALA issues and employment law matters.”  Clients said the Firm is “very quick to get on top of things and…dedicated to the concept of being a part of the team for the organization they are representing."  Richard Spohn is commended by Chambers for his “long-established practice advising on managed care matters.”

Nossaman also received recognition as a leading California law firm in the Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use category.  Editors commented that the firm is known for advising on “all aspects of the land use permitting process, including zoning, CEQA, coastal developments and eminent domain.”  Clients praised  the Firm for its “depth of experience” and being “unparalleled in the area of California coastal law.”  Bradford Kuhn, the Chair of the Eminent Domain and Valuation Practice Group, was ranked as an individual attorney in the category.

Additionally, Fred Dombo, the Chair of Nossaman's Public Policy Group, was once again ranked nationally in the Political Law category.  This was the second year that Mr. Dombo received this recognition from Chambers.
