Nossaman Partner Edward Kussy Named Chair of the Transportation Research Board's Legal Resources Group

WASHINGTON D.C. (January 14, 2009) – Nossaman Infrastructure Partner Edward Kussy has been named the next chair of the Legal Resources Group at the Transportation Research Board (TRB). His selection was announced at the annual meeting of the TRB on January 13 in Washington, DC. As chair, he will lead the group that serves as the principle professional association of highway and transit lawyers across the US. The group includes seven standing committees that span the breadth of legal issues facing transportation lawyers.

Mr. Kussy has been an active member of the TRB and the Legal Resources Group for more than 30 years. He was a long-time member of the Executive Committee and a past Chair of the Environmental Issues in Transportation Law Committee. In 1996, he was the distinguished lecturer for the TRB's 75th annual meeting. His three-year term as the Chair of the Legal Resources Group will begin in April.

The Legal Resources Group will host it 48th Annual Workshop on Transportation Law in Denver, Colorado from July 19-22 and is expected to draw more than 200 federal, state and private transportation attorneys. The TRB is hosting its 88th Annual Meeting, attended by more than 10,000 transportation professionals from around the world, January 11-16th in Washington, DC.

Prior to joining Nossaman, Mr. Kussy spent nearly four decades in the public sector, most recently serving as the deputy chief counsel at the Federal Highways Administration – the agency's top career lawyer. He has a national reputation in both transportation and environmental law.

TRB is one of six major divisions of the National Research Council— a private, nonprofit institution that is the principal operating agency of the National Academies in providing services to the government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities. The National Research Council is jointly administered by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine. TRB's varied activities annually engage more than 7,000 engineers, scientists, and other transportation researchers and practitioners from the public and private sectors and academia, all of whom contribute their expertise in the public interest by participating on TRB committees, panels, and task forces. The program is supported by state transportation departments, federal agencies including the component administrations of the U.S. Department of Transportation, and other organizations and individuals interested in the development of transportation.
