Alexander Suarez’s practice focuses on commercial disputes and business litigation. He represents clients in complex commercial litigation involving insurance recovery issues, financial services and real estate. He has experience in the state and federal court litigation process, supporting clients and co-counsel in disputes from the initiation of lawsuits through post-judgment motion practice. Mr. Suarez is particularly skilled in researching factual and legal issues and in drafting pleadings and motions. Mr. Suarez has participated in trials by appearing in court and questioning adverse witnesses, and by offering support during trial. Mr. Suarez has successfully challenged complaints filed in state and federal courts, including motions to dismiss and demurrers, motions to strike, and anti-SLAPP motions. He has also argued for and obtained a determination of prevailing parties in Federal Court, allowing for recovery of the client’s costs after securing dismissal of a case. 

Prior to joining Nossaman, Mr. Suarez was an associate at an international law firm where he gained experience with mergers and acquisitions, private equity financings, securities regulation, and general corporate governance.  His corporate law background has proven to be valuable in representing corporate clients and assisting trial teams on matters related to corporate structure and securities regulations.

Representative Work

  • Energy Company.  Key member of litigation team defending publicly traded energy company and various affiliates and employees in federal and state court cases for intentional infliction of emotional distress.  Successfully moved for orders striking multiple complaints against client companies and employees under California's anti-SLAPP statute, recovered attorneys' fees in connection with those motions, and prevailed on appeal challenging the trial court’s grant of one of the anti-SLAPP motions.  
  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).  Represents the FDIC in a variety of commercial litigation resulting from recent bank failures; assists in investigations of professional liability claims against officers and directors and outside professionals.
  • Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Currently assisting MTA with acquiring property for the LAX/Crenshaw Line Project, including analyzing title, possession and relocation and valuation issues.
  • Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority. Currently assisting Expo in acquiring property for the Phase 2 Expo Line Project.
  • Sprint Communications, Inc. Assisted in the successful defense of Sprint in a dispute in a lessors challenge of the company's terminations of leases for sites housing obsolete network communications equipment, which was held to have been the valid exercise of a contractual right.
  • Represented landlord and affiliates, including a real estate management company with a market capitalization over $3 billion dollars, in a contract dispute with lessees.
