Nossaman Announcement

Nossaman LLP is proud to support the Groundwater Exchange, an important resource focused on assisting the successful implementation of California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).  Brainchild of Maven's Notebook founder Chris Austin, the Groundwater Exchange is a central, collaborative, and publicly accessible online resource center connecting water managers, water users, and community members with tools and resources to support the design and implementation of effective Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) under SGMA.  The Groundwater Exchange is a program of the California Water Library and is a project of the Multiplier, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which helps protect and foster a healthy, sustainable, resilient, and equitable world.

According to Nossaman Water Law Group Chair Alfred Smith, "Given the importance of SGMA to California and the complexity of many of the issues surrounding its implementation, a resource such as the Groundwater Exchange is a tool which Nossaman believes will benefit numerous constituencies as we move forward with SGMA compliance.  This online repository and reference center brings together, into one central forum, so much of the key information, as well as access to knowledgeable practitioners in the field, needed to navigate SGMA and its related regulations."

The Groundwater Exchange founder Chris Austin added, "Our goal in creating the Groundwater Exchange was to provide a centralized, easy-to-use reference which practitioners and consumers involved in every aspect of SGMA implementation could access free of charge to more easily locate the resources needed to help answer questions about groundwater management and its implications for the State of California.  We greatly appreciate Nossaman's and all of our sponsors' support in moving this effort forward."

The online resource center currently includes pages with specific information categorized for Groundwater Users, Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs), and Groundwater Providers.  There is also a mapping tool where detailed information about specific basins can be accessed, as well as fact sheets and other reference information on GSPs and adjudicated basins.  Membership for the Groundwater Exchange is free and the online registration page is here.
