Nossaman Partner Marco Costales Quoted In SF Chronicle On WeWork's Beer Licensing Issues In California

Marco Costales was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle story, WeWork’s Free Beer To Flow Again, Legal Or Not.  The story examines WeWork’s recent decision to once again start serving beer on tap in its California locations.  WeWork—a co-working company that caters to young professionals—had stopped serving beer in California in December of 2017 after being contacted by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (the department), which let it know that serving alcohol to tenants without a liquor license was a criminal misdemeanor.  In February of 2018, the department communicated to WeWork that while it was likely the company would need a license to serve beer, investigating the matter was not a priority at the moment.  Commenting on WeWork’s decision to begin serving beer in its California locations without a liquor license, Mr. Costales said, Maybe the risk isn’t that great, but that doesn’t mean that the director of the (department) can’t...work with law enforcement to bring some sort of action against these guys…To me that wouldn’t be a green light to bring the beer back.  Mr. Costales commented on this matter previously for the San Francisco Chronicle
