The Mid-Market Report

George Joseph, Nossaman’s Managing Partner, was featured in a Q&A for ALM’s Mid-Market Report.  George provided his thoughts on a number of topics related to the business of law, including how Nossaman adds value for its clients, how the firm fosters the next generation of legal talent, its need to stay rooted to the communities Nossaman does business in, and the importance of succession planning.  Excerpts from the Q&A are below:

On the biggest opportunities for Nossaman:

We’re a midsize firm that competes in virtually all of our practice areas with larger, frequently international firms.  Given our size, we are often more nimble in our approach on matters… This enables us to offer innovative, best-in class solutions to our clients across a number of critical practice areas quickly and at a price point that often beats larger firms.

On fostering the next generation of talent at Nossaman:

[We] can offer the next generation of legal talent a chance to be on the front lines of a litigation or transactional matter within their first several years, and a path to equity partnership, which may not be the case at a larger firm.

On the importance of giving back to the communities Nossaman does business in:

Emphasizing community engagement is important to keeping our lawyers and professional staff grounded.  One recent example is that [in 2018]  on 9/11—as part of our ‘Do Good Things’ charitable program—we coordinated a volunteer effort across the firm to remember everyone that was impacted by the attacks on that day.

On the importance of succession planning at Nossaman:

Succession planning is something we have thought long and hard about.  It is very, very important to us and our clients that we have the next generation of leaders positioned to step forward when the time is right, at all levels throughout the firm… it is vital to the health and continuing success of any organization.
