Responding to Critics, Gynecology Board Reverses Ban on Treating Male Patients

01/30/2014 The New York Times

Nossaman Partner Tom Curtis was mentioned in the New York Times article "Responding to Critics, Gynecology Board Reverses Ban on Treating Male Patients" regarding the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology's decision to lift a ban imposed in September that prohibited its members from treating men.

On January 10, Mr. Curtis sent a letter to the board on behalf of Dr. David Matlock, an obstetrician-gynecologist in Los Angeles, threatening legal action unless the prohibition against treating men was withdrawn, suggeting that the ban violated antitrust laws. The article noted that Dr. Matlock said 4.7 percent of his patients were men.

On January 30, the board announced its decision to lift the ban on treating men, as well as the requirement that members devote at least 75 percent of their practice to obstetrics and gynecology.
