Environment and Land Use Chair Paul Weiland Quoted In Law360 On Renewable Energy Project

02/20/2019 Law360

Paul Weiland was recently quoted in the Law360 article, “Oregon Project's Renewable Trifecta Won't Be Easy To Copy.”  The article discusses how a first of its kind project located in Oregon that will “combine large-scale wind, solar and energy storage on a single site” has the industry buzzing.  The project “could allow renewable projects to fully time their ability to generate and dispatch electricity with demand and resolve the intermittency issues that are their biggest disadvantage.”

Speaking about zoning for those contemplating similar projects, Mr. Weiland said, “many local governments have gotten to a place where they're enacting zoning and land use laws that encompass wind, solar or storage development, but they haven't necessarily contemplated combining such projects and accounting for their varying land use impact.  [This is] not an insurmountable hurdle, but it's [a] hurdle.”
