Carl Blumenstein, a Partner in Nossaman’s Litigation Practice Group, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times’ front page story Goleta Sues To Stop ‘Law & Order’ Creator From Selling Water To Neighboring Cities. The article examines the first day of trial in Goleta Water District v. Slippery Rock Ranch—Nossaman represents the Goleta Water District (the District) in the matter. The District is suing Slippery Rock Ranch (the Ranch)—a 780 acre ranch in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains owned by Dick Wolf, creator of Law & Order, and set on an aquifer—in order to stop the Ranch from extracting water and selling it to neighboring cities. The Ranch’s aquifer is connected to the Goleta Groundwater Basin, for which the District has appropriative rights.  In the story, the Los Angeles Times recounts Mr. Blumenstein’s  opening statements in the trial. The case is about water, Mr.  Blumenstein said, and Slippery Rock Ranch and Dick Wolf  seek to take that water—water that belongs to the public—and sell it for private gain.
