Make Your Voice Heard: The California Coastal Commission Seeks Comments on Draft of Sea-Level Rise Guidance Document

Our coastline is facing increased risks to coastal development, critical infrastructure, and recreational beach resources due to accelerated shoreline erosion, coastal flooding and extreme storm events. In response to these threats associated with Sea-Level Rise, the California Coastal Commission is releasing draft proposed Sea-Level Rise Guidance for California's coastal communities. The objective of this document is to help protect the economy and environment through effective planning.

Commission staff is currently seeking input on the draft Sea-Level Rise Guidance through a 90-day review period (ending January 15th, 2014) and will welcome all feedback. The document will be a resource for addressing Sea-Level rise in Local Coastal Programs and coastal development through planning and regulatory actions. This document is based on the best available science for addressing Sea-Level Rise in California. When complete, the document will provide ongoing guiding principles for addressing challenges posed by Sea-Level Rise and how it effects coastal development.
