CSHA's Hearing Officer Update Program and 2019 Fall Seminar

Robert Sullivan and Carlo Coppo will be presenting at the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys’ Hearing Officer Update Program on Thursday, November 7, 2019, in Sacramento, CA.

First, at 3:00 p.m., Bob Sullivan will participate in a panel presentation regarding “Admissibility of Evidence of Retaliation or Discrimination.”  The panel will discuss the admissibility of evidence of prejudice and retaliation in peer review hearings.  Mr. Sullivan will give the hearing officer’s perspective, stressing relevance to impeachment.  

Later, at 4:00 p.m., Carlo Coppo will co-present on “The Role of the Appeal Board.”  The presentation will review the statutory and case law and bylaw provisions establishing procedures governing an appeal by either the aggrieved physician or the MEC of the Medical Staff from an adverse decision by a Judicial Review Committee (JRC) or a sole Arbitrator following the imposition of corrective action by the MEC.  They will also discuss the role of counsel to an Appeal Board including providing advice and counsel and assisting the Appeal Board in writing their decision.
